This interesting group birds are one of the most common and famous of all waterbirds. They have many unique physical characteristics. The most noticeable one is their beak. Most of the waterfowls have shovel shaped beaks while few have pointed ones. This is because these are omnivorous birds and they will eat anything from small aquatic plants to small and medium sized fish.
These birds lives in large flocks. When threatened they will fly away very quickly. Normally, determining their sex is easy as most males are brightly coloured and some body parts are shaped differently while females are mostly scaly brown and lacks those specially shaped appendages.
They breed by building nests near a water body and will lay a clutch which contain about 4 eggs
